Often Asked Questions

What are the church’s office hours?
John Wesley church staff is available to serve you Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12noon. All other times are by appointment. You can also leave a message on the church phone system. Telephone messages are checked on a regular basis. In case of an emergency do not hesitate to contact Dr. David Calhoun at home 508-540-8260.

How do I reserve church facilities?
The Fellowship Hall and other rooms can be reserved for meetings and special events. Call Eva Peterson, Church Secretary, or Dr. David Calhoun at the church office for details 508-548-3050.

Where do I park?
John Wesley Church is located on 3.5 acres of land. There are plenty of parking spaces in the church parking lot, and when that is full there are over flow parking spaces around the church campus. Handicap parking spaces are designated in the upper parking lot in front of the church. We ask all who are able to park at a distance, allowing our mobility challenged and our guests to park closer to the church.

How do I reserve flowers for a worship service?
A floral arrangement is a wonderful way to memorialize or honor a loved one. Contact Church Secretary, Eva Peterson, at the church office for costs and flower schedule. Following worship, volunteers deliver flowers to our homebound and hospitalized members.

Who do I contact with questions about my pledge or financial contribution?
Dottie Hack is our Financial Secretary and can be contacted through the church office.

When are CDs of the worship service and copies of the sermons available?
CDs of the worship service are available for a cost of $3. They are generally available with 15 to 30 minutes after the conclusion of worship. Transcripts of sermons are available on the following Sunday upon request.

What do I do if a loved one is hospitalized?
Please contact the church office if you or a loved one are anticipating surgery or have unexpectedly been hospitalized so that we may provide appropriate prayer and pastoral care.

What if I have a new phone number, home or email address?
It is important to keep our data base current. Jeanne Amaral is our membership secretary. Please contact the church office when any of your contact information changes.

Who is welcome to receive Communion?
The Lord’s Supper is not limited to any particular tradition or denomination. We have an open table and communion is offered to all who trust and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Children are welcome to the table as they are able, in recognition that God’s love and grace is real whether we fully understand it or not. Parents have a responsibility to instruct and nurture their children in the significance of the Lord’s Supper as they grow in their ability to understand its meaning and power.

Why does our worship differ from Sunday to Sunday?

In the 8:30am Celebration Service which is held in the greenhouse chapel, you can enjoy a more upbeat blended style of worship. At the 10:30am Traditional Service in the sanctuary, in general, we follow the same pattern each Sunday – a pattern which is fairly typical of United Methodist Worship. What changes from Sunday to Sunday are the musical style and the form of the sermon. We embrace a broad spectrum of music, from traditional to gospel to classical. We also recognize that the word of God can come in many forms other than a 20-minute sermon from the pastor. From time to time we use drama, video, and faith sharing by members of the congregation, and cantatas or special musical presentations to communicate God’s love and grace in a different way.
